The principle of stewardship that runs through the Old and New Testaments begins with the self (2 Thes iii:10) and extends outwardly from there. God intended from the beginning that the first level of responsibility beyond one's self is one's firsthand family, and then ane's extended family unit, and and then one's church building, then community, then state, and then the world. Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for missing this point (Mt 15:5). The trouble here seems to be the widows. Who should exist on the list of those supported by the church building? Merely those who had no family to support them, of which there would exist enough.
Rather than see this just as a blind spot, Paul saw it as possible testify of unbelief. Only, to Paul, it was worse than unbelief, because of the level of knowledge in the Church. In short, a Christian would have known better. Information technology could besides be the case that the unbelievers were ameliorate at caring for their poor family members better than the Church building. Peradventure those in the local church building were in the habit of leaving ministry to the poor to the institution, but this was manifestly proving to be a drain on resource and did non capture God's heart for the style we would think of caring for the poor.
A similar trouble in today's lodge is the tendency for people to leave treat the needy upward to the country. Spheres of responsibility are hierarchical and must be prioritized as such. First, provide for your own needs, so work out from at that place, starting with your immediate household.

To fail in this area is to take grossly misunderstood the heart of God, our Father, who provides everything nosotros demand. A key part of his provision is that which comes through those of our family members who have been blessed with enough to share.

In fact, if fifty-fifty unbelievers get this, so we are worse than them in this area.
